Norfolk Real Estate
This is one of Virginia’s largest incorporated independent cities. Located on the inlet of the Elizabeth River, bordering Hampton Roads, Norfolk is a prime fishing and shipping city. These industries take full advantage of the natural harbor of Hampton Roads, seated at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. Norfolk is the heart of the “Seven City” area. Since it is geographically situated in the middle of all the other independent cities, this city is also considered to be the historic, cultural, and urban center of Hampton Roads. This ideal location gives Norfolk a great real estate market because of the long miles of riverfront and bay area properties.
Norfolk has a history of being a strategic military point, and the Norfolk Naval Base happens to be the biggest of its kind in the world. The city was laid out in 1682 and incorporated in 1845, so the area is saturated in local and early history. The downtown area has undergone gradual urban renewal and revitalization over the past half century. This has beautified the area and brought revenue and tourism to a higher level, creating a cultural and entertainment hotspot.
